A mid-summer nights Dream

As the rain batters of the window, the only angling inspiration comes from looking at photos from seasons past , and from there i felt inspired to tie a few flies at the vice. My mind was taken to fishing for trout in  the hot summer evenings , with this now in mind i decided to tie a few spinner patterns, these are particularly handy during the months the blue winged olive is on the water but also for olive upright and large dark olive spinners too during a rare mild May evening .

Our evening fishing normally should be well underway by Mid May, i look forward to putting these flies  to use and hope they prove sucessful when the spinners start to fall.

  1. Hi Col, getting a fly rod for the salt when I get paid, got a couple of Loop Exact Reels for a good price before Christmas. Buying the two reels was cheaper than getting a spare spool as it happens. Will be fishing for Sea Trout and Bass mainly. Do you know anybody that can tie specific patterns for me ? Not a request for yourself by the way but if you can put me on to someone I'd appreciate it. Not picked up a fly rod for year and I'm looking forward to it.

  3. Spot on Col, having a look just now. Thanks for the offer but if I can get it sorted out I wont pester you :0) Looking for some flies for my night Bass fishing, maybe wire guard hooks etc as well as other stuff. Need to get some clear safety specs for the night fishing as well, 15mph SW's with me thrashing the floating bladderwrack will be interesting....

  4. ill be interested to hear how you get on, with SWFF in mind just booked up a wee lodge for 3 days pollocking in skye at the end of august, cant wait , hope to bump into a big coalie. been reading up on venues there a spot we fish for pollock thats got a bit of a reputation for seatrout a bit further round the bay by a burn , so maybe give that ago if we find the time mightbbe good at low tide? . Think ill tie up some orange clousers this afternoon.

  6. The Sea Trout can turn up anywhere, burns running across a beach always hold a few fish. I've found an hour or two either side of HT excellent if you get the right type of bay, weedy/broken sand with some gradient, fish seem to hold in them over that stage of tide., if you’ve tide running around a point near this you’re probably in. I’m sure you’ll catch, Pollack, mow you’re talking, will make time for those
